Meet our staff

Our staff all have a real empathy for older people, are committed to improving the quality of the lives of our residents and are proud to maintain the high standards of care that Bradbury House provides.

The staff team consists of three full time managers supported by three senior team leaders and a team leader. They lead full and part time care assistants, administration, maintenance and housekeeping staff.

Our team of carers come from many different backgrounds, and some have been employed in the care industry all their working lives. All our care staff complete the mandatory training and NVQs, together with more specialised areas such as Parkinson’s disease, sensory impairment, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and stroke awareness.

Our House Manager

Our registered House Manager, Wendy Stallwood, has been caring for the elderly since 1991 and has worked at Bradbury House since October 1994, initially as a qualified nurse. She has since achieved a City and Guilds Management for Care award in 1996, an NVQ Assessors award in 2002 and Registered Managers NVQ award in 2006. She has been House Manager since 2001.

Volunteering at Bradbury House

We couldn't do it all without our wonderful volunteers: trustees, committee members, social visitors, activity centre helpers and financial supporters.

We are always looking for new volunteers and would love to meet anyone who would like to become involved with the home for a chat to see how we can best use their available time and skills. We provide regular training for all our volunteers.

If you have some spare time once a week, once a fortnight or even once a month, we need and will value your help – and we can promise you'd find it rewarding.

Please get in touch if you:

  • Enjoy older peoples’ company, can listen, talk and share memories
  • Can bring your daily experiences of life into the home to help stimulate and enliven the residents' lives
  • Would like to befriend our residents and day care visitors
  • Would like to help with word and board games, crosswords and quizzes (or even have them help you!)
  • Are computer literate and could help our residents learn to use our computer
  • Have a particular skill you could share
  • Would like to escort our residents on mini-bus trips
  • Would like to drive our 16 seater mini-bus
  • Have some new and stimulating ideas for entertaining our residents

Activities

The care home has been enhanced by the addition of a purpose built activities centre that allows a whole range of interesting and varied activities to be undertaken and in which our day care visitors can participate. It is joined with the main house by a glass covered way and enjoys the same beautiful gardens as the main house.

Our minibus also provides the opportunity for residents to embark on trips to local events and attractions.

We organise a number of social activities and events, especially suitable for older people, in our activities centre. These are available for both residents and visitors to the day centre, so there's always something to keep you occupied or to look forward to. We have a minibus which enables us to easily take residents and day care visitors on outings.
