About the property

We are an innovative purpose built residential dementia care home situated in the village of Winnersh, Wokingham.

Our home has been specially designed to give a unique approach to dementia care. We have 62 en-suite bedrooms together with separate spa-bathrooms, beauty salon, lounges, cinema, shop and not forgetting that this is surrounded by beautiful gardens which can be enjoyed by you, your family and friends.

The home itself has been designed to allow freedom of movement throughout, it flows from one area into another. Each bedroom has been provided with furniture that is specially designed, as it allows easy access to your clothes and for you to be able to locate items quickly. However we strongly encourage you to make your bedroom your own by personalizing it in anyway you wish, this could mean bringing in your favourite arm chair, photos, ornaments and pictures for the wall, all of which will help make the room be part of your home.

The gardens have been designed to encourage outside living, there will be lots of areas to see and look at. We have provided outside buildings that will have both lighting and heating to help you with any hobbies you wish to pursue. If you have any visitors with children they are more than welcome and have been provided with their own play area to enjoy. Throughout the home there are some lovely quiet lounges for you to enjoy or maybe you would like to join us in ‘Winnies’, our own tea room, where you can welcome your family and friends to join you and hopefully make some new friends with our other residents and our team.

In March 2018 we became one of the first care homes in the country to receive accreditation from Playlist for Life, a pioneering project that uses music to help people who are living with dementia. Find out more about the Abbeyfield 'Making Music' project here.

Meet our staff

The staff at Winnersh are crucial to delivering our ground breaking service. Here are some of the key people in the team.

"Our team will be caring, dedicated and specialised in their field of expertise. Whether that is our care team, activities team, kitchen team, house keeping team or maintenance they are all here to support you in what ever way you need."

We encourage visits to Winnersh so you can meet our team and get a feel of what it would be like to live here. You will be able to look around, meet other residents, find out what goes on, stay for lunch and ask any questions you may have. It is important to us that you make the right decision and are happy with your choice of new home.

"I've always enjoyed working with older people. I like being able to ensure that their needs are met and that they receive top quality care at all times."
– Gabriela Smith, Care Home Manager

We’re very proud of our home and the real community feel where people enjoy interacting with their fellow residents, families and friends. We love meeting new people and find helping them through the process of change really rewarding.

Gabriela Smith

- Care Home Manager

Gabriela has been working in care since 2005, and worked her way up through the ranks from Care Worker before first becoming a Registered Manager in 2011. She has worked for a number of care companies including private, social services and not-for-profit care homes and managed two domiciliary agencies. Gabriela holds Level 5 in Health and Social Care, Level 3 in Dementia Leadership, Level 3 in Palliative Care, Level 2 in Mental Health, Level 2 Nutrition and Health, Level 2 in Principles of Dementia, Emergency Aid and other. Gabriela runs all aspects of the home, taking care of the business side of things and ensuring home provides a high standard of care.

David Labbett

- Chef Manager

I have catering experience across a range of different sectors and bring passion for great food to Abbeyfield Winnersh. Starting my career in restaurants and hotels, I soon focused more towards catering within the NHS and care home environment. I found working in a care home hugely satisfying and firmly believe that high quality catering using fresh produce can really make a difference to quality of life. I am very privileged to be working along side a great team, and feel honored to welcome in all new residents as the service develops.

Sheila Stevens

- Administrator

I joined Abbeyfield Winnersh in July 2016 as an Activities Coordinator, which was a role I enjoyed as I had plenty of interactions with our lovely residents. I moved across to the role in January 2017, where I run the day to day admin for the home. I really enjoy this job as it still allows me to have the day to day contact with our residents, their families and visitors.

Employee of the Month

- Jocelma Unwin & Jo Jungius

At Abbeyfield Winnersh, we have started an Employee of the Month scheme to recognise members of staff who have gone above and beyond in their role. Winners for April were Jocelma Unwin, Care Assistant and Jo Jungius, Activities Coordinator. They were both presented with a certificate and bottle of prosecco by House Manager Gabriela Smith. Congratulations to them both!

Coupled with the specially designed environment, activities at the house are also designed to be dementia friendly.
