Downing House was built in early 1980 and officially opened by her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales in December 1983. The house is a residential care home offering high quality care for up to 25 people in a purpose built house.

Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and decorations in order to make their rooms as homely as possible. We support our residents in making their own decisions about how they want to live their life.

Our lounge offers a comfortable, homely atmosphere for your to sit and enjoy some quiet time to yourself or meet with other residents. We have our own cinema room with projector screen and surround sound which is a very popular feature.

The gardens offer improved access for those with restricted mobility.

We recognise the importance of maintaining relationships with family and friends and we encourage residents in pursuing hobbies and interests by offering a variety of activities from in house entertainment to outings.

Our home is very special to us as everyone is part of one big family and we all love and care for eachother. There is always something happening at the house as we have an amazing Activities Coordinator who goes above and beyond to keep everyone entertained. The carers here are always willing to go the extra mile for our residents, nothing is too much to ask.

Talk to us about respite stays

We’re proud to offer respite stays at Downing House, a short-stay that can be planned ahead, or in the case of an emergency, last-minute. Suitable for individuals seeking support following post-operative or hospital care, or whilst their regular caregiver takes a break, respite care can also be used as a way of introducing long-term residential care to a loved one.

At Downing House our respite stays include:
- 24/7 care support from our qualified and friendly staff
- Daily activities
- Nutritious meals served daily (dietary requirements can be catered for)
- Housekeeping and linen service

*Respite prices may vary depending on needs.
