The Firs Complex is a sheltered housing complex in Sherwood, Nottingham. It comprises 24 flats and 17 bungalows which can be either rented or purchased by lease sale.

Each property includes a bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitchen with some properties having a second bedroom and en-suite as well. There is a communal lounge on site which is available for the residents’ use and also a laundry for the residents to do their washing. Residents may also take advantage of the extensive grounds which are maintained by the site’s gardener with a little help from some of our more green-fingered ladies and gents.

The site itself is situated very close to the shops and on one of Nottingham’s main roads allowing easy travel between the city and Arnold. Residents are able to keep their independence whilst drawing on the assistance of the staff when needed and, with a Residential and Nursing Home on site, respite care can be arranged in the event of poorly health or recovery from an injury.

Life at the house

We always have lots of fun things for residents to get involved with if they wish, such as film afternoons and knit and natter groups, with plenty of one-off entertainment too in the form of musical recitals and visiting drama groups.

We also love going out on plenty of excursions to venues around the East Midlands.

As a charity, Abbeyfield is supported by many volunteers and it is not unusual to have them help in organising special events for our residents to really make a difference in their lives.

Whilst meals are not provided for the residents daily, there is a luncheon club which runs 4 days during the week and allows some of the residents to dine together in a social setting.

Additionally, we are fortunate to be visited by both a fish van and a greengrocer during the week so that people can have access to local fresh ingredients to cook with.
