It's a home from home with support when you need it from our professional and caring house staff and volunteers.

Our sheltered accommodation offers affordable, high quality living for older people who want to be as independent and self-reliant as possible without the worry of maintaining their own home.

We have seven bedsits or apartments. Some are suitable for a couple to occupy.

We provide two tasty home cooked meals daily and residents have breakfast making facilities in their own rooms.

The Laurels is managed by Abbeyfield Porlock

Life at the house

Garden PArtyWe group of volunteer 'Friends' organise a number of social activities, outings and events, especially suitable for older people, so there is always something to keep you occupied or to look forward to.

Activities include:

• Morning coffee morning, lunch or afternoon tea in a local restaurant
• Lunch or tea in Friends' own homes - including one where we were entertained by melodies played on the grand piano
• Slinky’, our mini-bus, provides transport, or the Friends take their own cars • Monthly outings to local attractions
• Twice yearly coffee mornings
• Annual garden party

We provide two healthy and delicious meals a day, which are cooked and prepared at the house. Our qualified cooks pride themselves on providing excellent food which is all freshly prepared, and where possible, using locally sourced produce.

Each house has an individual approach to catering for their residents, with menus being tailored to dietary needs and special events. But we always offer plenty of choices, including vegetarian options, and great portion sizes!

Meal time at an Abbeyfield is also important as it’s when the whole house gets together - a time to have a chat enjoying great food and great company.
