About the property

Abbeyfield Romsey was opened in 1993 with an extension added in 2007. The house has 10 studio rooms of different sizes all with their own en-suite and lift access to all rooms. The house also has 3 apartments which can cater for couples if needed. We have a lovely sunny lounge and dining room that have both been recently redecorated, a seating area at the front of the house and a rear patio and garden. All our rooms overlook green fields and have a sunny aspect to them.

We provide two meals a day consisting of a two course lunch and a light tea in the evening. Residents make breakfast at their leisure in the communal kitchens. 

The house is in a quiet area only 5 minutes’ level walk from the picturesque centre of the market town of Romsey where you can find various coffee shops, department store and independent retailers. There is also a local market in town square twice a week with local produce and handy crafts. There are good transport links with local bus routes and a nearby train station with trains to London, Southampton and Winchester.

We have a visiting mobile hairdresser and chiropodist, which is arranged by the residents and their families. We also have a lift and two assisted bathrooms.

The house has a dedicated Operations Manager, however residents can gain additional support from a Careline provider 24 hours a day. Each resident is provided with a pendant and has a support system in their bedroom and en-suite to contact the Careline.

In the area

Meet our staff

A voluntary committee is responsible for the well being of our residents and overseeing the houses. Overall responsibility for the Society's activities rests with an Executive Committee of voluntary Trustees drawn from public and private sectors.

Staff and volunteers also provide support and companionship to residents. The staff at our homes are experienced in dealing with elderly people and are very empathetic to their needs.

William Tait

- Operations Manager

William is the Operations Manager and also a qualified chef, who can provide varied and interesting menus to ensure our residents are well looked after.

Felicity Janes

- Cleaner

Felicity is a dedicated member of staff who cleans and does the laundry for the residents - always willing to go the extra mile for the house.

Gwen Sloan

- Cleaner

Gwen is dedicated to looking after the residents and also cooks teas when required. She always has time for a friendly chat with residents.


We offer various activities and events for our residents to take part in. Families are encouraged to attend social activities when they can.

Some of our activities have included:

  • House quizzes
  • Jigsaws 
  • Card games
  • Day trips out to local places of interest, including the Abbey
  • Reminiscence sessions with local museum, including Silk Mill talk
  • Celebrate resident’s birthdays with drinks and nibbles and a special homemade cake
  • Christmas party every year for the residents and family

Residents are also encouraged to take active roles in garden by planting pots and light weeding and maintenance if they wish.
