About the property

The house has nine rooms with an en suite and a one bedroom flat.  Built in 1964, the house was refurbished in 2000.  The house has a warm, cosy atmosphere with a communal lounge and dining room.  There is wifi and a laptop and printer for residents and their families to make use of.

A lovely secluded garden is accessible from the lounge and is enjoyed by the residents in the summer.

There is also a laundry room, two mini kitchens for making a drink and two assisted bathrooms.

We provide a peaceful, friendly atmosphere where residents can remain as independent as possible.  It’s a home from home with support when you need it from our professional and caring house staff and volunteers.

This house is managed by Abbeyfield York.

Meet our staff

We have very committed and caring staff who have the interests of our residents at the heart of everything they do. They have a genuine passion for making the time people spend with us as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

We are supported by a group of dedicated volunteers who may be Board Members and oversee the smooth running of the Society or volunteers who are there to enhance the social aspect of a residents life.

- Housekeeper

Debbie has been with the York Society for just over a year but comes with a great deal of experience. She is always willing to do all she can for the comfort of our residents.

- Housekeeper

Lillian is our newest member of staff but again has past experience. She is also a local volunteer with Age UK which demonstrates her commitment to helping older people.

- Domestic assistant

Sue has worked for the York Society for many years and is always helpful and cheerful. Sue keeps chickens at home and brings in the baby chicks to show the residents.

MusicResidents keep loneliness at bay by joining in the regular coffee mornings, listening to music or a film together, attending talks, bingo, quizzes, exercise group and ad hoc outings. Computer and laptops are available for residents use.

Activities include:

• The residents get together each day for morning coffee and a catch up
• Occasional talks and slide shows
• Regular communion services
• Ad hoc outings for coffee or afternoon tea
