Abbeyfield Girton Green caters for those who want to live later in life in a modern, safe, secure and lively setting. Set in the thriving, picturesque community of Girton on the outskirts of Cambridge, Abbeyfield is well connected to the local community.

The site is run by an Abbeyfield’s Operations Manager, assisted by a small team of Abbeyfield staff who ensure that the site and services run smoothly.

Abbeyfield Girton Green offers a range of modern, well equipped apartments for sale or rent in a vibrant, community led development which offers a wide range of services, facilities and resident led clubs and activities. As a resident of Girton Green you will enjoy full use of our restaurant which provides high quality lunchtime meals and caters for special events. Our luxurious and well equipped Spa and Gym facilities includes a pool, a sauna, steam room and a jacuzzi and offers fitness, relaxation, as well as social activities and events. Residents benefit from well-being assessments, personal training programmes and a wide range of exercise and fitness classes all of which are provided by our on-site dedicated Fitness Trainer.

A resident led coffee shop, a jigsaw corner and community activities ensure the area we call ‘The Street’ is a great place for socialising and meeting with friends. The comfortable Lounge-Conservatory overlooking the garden is used for meetings and clubs and also houses the library. The Activities Room has a fully equipped computer suite and is the venue for many of the resident led clubs and activities, including art and bridge. A purpose built Cinema is the venue for the Film Club and also offers a ‘big screen’ for communal viewing of concerts and national sporting events. We offer a minibus service to Cambridge City Centre and to local supermarkets. We also have a Guest Suite available for visiting friends and family. A hairdresser and beautician provide a range of services in our on-site Therapy Room and Hairdressing Salon, all of which ensure our residents have lots of opportunities to relax and enjoy life at Girton Green. Abbeyfield want you to feel confident and secure in the knowledge that help is always at hand, whilst living independently.

The secure, remote intercom system for visitors ensures a safe and secure environment for our residents and ensures that help is just a call away. Our Care Quality Commission registered Care at Home service offers additional support and care for now, or in the future if the need should arise. The village of Girton Green

Situated to the north-west of the city of Cambridge, the village of Girton is home to some 4500 people and has a long history dating back to pre-Saxon times. Originally named Gretton, meaning “village on the gravel”, the settlement grew up along a gravel ridge. 

Although steeped in history this is a vibrant and dynamic village where residents contribute to many activities’. The village has a wealth of societies and clubs including; a village football club, a golf club as well as a lively social club which holds regular meetings and events.

Girton benefits from a range of transport facilities including the Citi 6 bus service which runs every 20 minutes from Oakington to the City Centre until 6pm. The 159 bus service runs through the village in the evenings at two hourly intervals. Road links are also good with easy access to the M11 via the A14.

Girton Green is a member of the Associated Retirement Community Operators and aims to comply with the ARCO Consumer Code at the schemes that satisfy ARCO’s strict membership criteria.The Code sets high standards for retirement community operators and provides a benchmark for good practice.

Our Spa has a fully equipped gym, a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. Our Lead Fitness Trainer offers a wide range of exercise classes and activities including, but not limited to:  Aqua Fit  Stretch and Stability  Body Tone & Balance  Quiz Nights Our cinema is used to screen major sporting events such as the Rugby World Cup and popular programmes such as Last Night at The Proms. 

What's on the menu

Your family and friends will be welcome to eat with you in our restaurant which offers daily lunchtime home-cooked meals, occasional evening meals and special events. Our experienced Chef caters for individual dietary requirements and also caters for residents' private parties and special events. Our special events such as Mother’s Day and Easter Sunday lunches are very popular with residents and their families.

The following is an example of a typical weekly main meal menu. We offer a main course meal menu as well as a Light Lunch Menu which includes a choice of Omelettes, Jacket Potatoes, Pan Fried Chicken or Salmon served with Salad or Seasonal Vegetables.

• Braised Pork Chop with Thyme, Apple & Leek Sauce served with Dauphinoise Potatoes and Seasonal Vegetables
• Mushroom & Leek Quiche topped with Red Onion Chutney and Stilton Cream Sauce served with Seasonal Vegetables or Salad

• Baked Trout, Braised Leeks with Caper & Dill Cream Sauce, Season Vegetables and Turned New Potatoes
• Baked Field Mushroom, Braised Leeks, Caper & Dill Cream Sauce, Seasonal Vegetables and Turned New Potatoes

• Pan-Fried Chicken Breast topped with Mozzarella Cheese, served with Linguini Pasta & Basil & Tomato Sauce
• Chargrilled Aubergine topped with Mozzarella Cheese, served with Linguini Pasta & Basil & Tomato Sauce 

• Cottage Pie topped with Creamed Potatoes, served with Seasonal Vegetables and extra gravy 
• Double Cheese Souffle with Roasted Sweetcorn Salsa, New Potatoes & Seasonal Vegetables

• Home-Battered Cod (or steamed on request) with Chips, Petit Pois or Salad
• Assortment of Omelettes cooked to order with Chips, Petit Pois or Salad

Meals prices Mon – Sat £8.50 including Soup of the day, Sundays only £10.00 for two courses or £13.50 for three courses. The restaurant is open to the public 7 days a week from 12am – 3pm. Please book in advance.
