Built in 1891, Abbeyfield House is a grand Victorian house offering 10 rooms equipped with their own bathroom facilities, carpets and curtains. We encourage you to bring your own furniture, to help make the house feel like a real home from home. The house has recently been renovated with a new block paved garden and drive, new kitchen and updates to the laundry area.

Our two housekeepers provide delicious, home cooked meals twice a day; at lunchtime and a light meal at tea time. We have a varied menu and there are also freshly baked cakes available each day as well as biscuits and fresh fruit.

We provide a Care Connect Service should there be any emergency such as a trip or fall, offering peace of mind that there is always someone available to help if you need them.

Spend time in the communal areas getting to know the other residents or relax and watch a film in the lounge. Our beautiful enclosed garden is the perfect place to enjoy some fresh air.

Set in a beautiful location, Abbeyfield House is close to many shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs close by for you to choose from. For the nature lovers, we are not far from the stunning North Pennines Area of Natural Beauty and are just a short walk from the River Tees. Visit the Historic Barnard Castle, which is set on a high rock above the River Tees and offers fantastic views over the Tees Gorge.

Milk, papers and mail is delivered daily to each resident who lives with us.

Abbeyfield House is managed by Abbeyfield Barnard Castle Society.
