Overview

We provide a home away from home, set in beautifully maintained gardens, where you are encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends, meet new people and participate in regular activities and outings.

We will support you in maintaining your independence and making your own decisions about your life.

Jim Gillespie House was purpose built in 1977 with money donated by an anonymous benefactor. It is a two storey, detached property set in well maintained gardens.

We provide residential care and are registered for 28 older people aged 65 years and over. We provide care for those who may experience hearing or visual impairment, or need assistance with personal care and / or mobility.

On the ground floor, there are 23 single rooms, including nine en suite rooms and one premium en-suite. On the upper floor there are a further four premium en suite rooms. You are welcome to bring your own furniture for a real home from home ambience.

Entertainment

We have visits from entertainers and specialists who provide music, singing, theatre performances, exercise sessions, interaction with animals, reminiscence, flower arranging, manicures and hand massage.

Daily activities

In the home daily activities are organised such as baking, word games, dominoes, quizzes, board games, bowling, film showings and bingo.

Annual events

We have annual events particularly around Christmas and in the summer. At Christmas we have school choirs that visit to sing carols, and there is a Christmas party and raffle. During the summer months we usually organise a strawberry cream tea to coincide with Abbeyfield Week, and if the weather allows we have a barbeque.

KitchenMeals are an important aspect of life at Jim Gillespie House, not only for maintaining health and wellbeing, but also as an opportunity for socialising and celebrating special occasions. We serve three tasty and nutritious home-cooked meals a day in the dining room, including a three-course lunch, although you may prefer to have meals served to your room. We offer a varied menu, with meal choices, and opportunities to suggest what you would like on the menu. Hot and cold drinks and snacks are always available for you and your visitors.
