Meet our staff

Sharon Hopkins

- Housekeeper

Sharon is our Housekeeper and always has a smile on her face no matter what time of the day. She's a mother of four so always busy, is a very hands on kind of person (especially fixing things and cake making) and is always there to listen and help in anyway she can. As long she can make at least one person smile and laugh her job is done!

Gail Dermot

- General Assistant

Gail work with a small team and her role consists of cleaning, assisting in the kitchen and sometimes cooking. She loves her and before joining Abbeyfield worked for Age UK, working to improve the lives of the frail, lonely and impoverished elderly. In her personal life she likes to eat out and go walking and has raised over £10,000 for charity by completing a charity trek - she's looking forward to fundraising for Abbeyfield to enhance the Abbeyfield experience for residents.

Coffee morningsMonthly social activities include outings, whist drives, coffee mornings and other events organised by Friends of Abbeyfield and the House Manager.

Armchair Exercises

Every Tuesday morning at 10.45am our residents gather in the communal lounge to work out in the comfort of a chair. The tutor is aware that everyone has limitations and you are given many different exercises to accommodate different abilities. It is a low-level activity which lasts approx 1 hour and is always well attended with relaxing music playing in the background, there is always time for a coffee and a chat before or after the class. We even had Radio Leicester come and attend our class as it is so popular!

Art Group/Knit and Natter

On a Wednesday morning the crafters gather in our light and bright conservatory room. We have a team of 4-5 volunteers who have various skills and crafts, our residents have been known to make bunting, clay modelling, card making amongst other things such as watercolour painting, oils and landscapes. This class runs alongside our knit and natter group who are an army of knitters who have made blankets for refugees, scarves for charity and even a helped with the Abbeyfield project of making a baby blanket for the royal baby. Its a lively, friendly group where you can have a go at anything.
