About the property

Green Lane House is supported sheltered accommodation located in the old market town Fordingbridge which lies on the banks of the River Avon in the New Forest District of Hampshire. The town has a population of approximately 5,700 people and since 1982 has been twinned with Vimoutiers in Normandy.

Green Lane House was opened in 2000 and provides a peaceful, friendly atmosphere. Residents are encouraged to remain as independent as possible and to make the house a home for life. The accommodation, which is all on the ground floor, comprises of 8 studio flats. There are 2 apartments which can cater for couples. All of our flats have en-suite facilities and French doors in all the flats provide access to private patios.

The resident’s main lounge is set in a lovely light and spacious conservatory where morning coffee is served and tea following lunch. The resident’s sitting room provides a quiet area for reading or meeting with friends. The well maintained gardens are available for all to use and residents are encouraged to demonstrate their gardening skills.

Green Lane is situated in a prime location within walking distance to the amenities which include post office, social centre, doctor’s surgery, dental surgery, cafes, restaurants and local shops. It is also situated close to a bus stop with connections to local towns. The house benefits from having two laundries, a shed for electric buggies with power point and a car park. An assisted bathroom is also available.

The house has a dedicated Operations Manager however residents can gain additional support from a Careline provider 24 hours a day. Each resident is provided with a pendant and has a support system in their bedroom and en-suite to contact the Careline.

Meet our staff

Our staff run Green Lane House on a day to day basis, providing two good quality home-cooked meals every day which are served in the dining room.

A voluntary committee is responsible for the well being of our residents and overseeing the houses. Overall responsibility for the Society's activities rests with an Executive Committee of voluntary Trustees drawn from public and private sectors.

Staff and volunteers also provide support and companionship to residents. The staff at our homes are experienced in dealing with elderly people and are very empathetic to their needs.

Steve Batt

- Operations Manager

Prior to his time at Abbeyfield, Steve worked in public service for 30 years. He now oversees Green Lane and has a good understanding of resident’s needs.

Anne Sheen

- General Assistant

Anne is a very thorough cleaner with a bubbly personality and an excellent rapport with the residents.

Anne Gamblin

- General Assistant

Anne is very cheerful at all times and provides first class service. She is always willing to go the extra mile to ensure the house is looking its best.

We offer various activities and events for the residents to take part in. Families are encouraged to attend social activities when they can.

Some of our activities have included:

  • Reminiscence sessions with local museum
  • Christmas party every year for the residents and familes

The residents are encouraged to join other Abbeyfield Wessex events such as:

  • Boat trips
  • Theatre trips
  • Lunches and afternoon teas at local garden centres

Resident’s birthdays are always celebrated. We make a homemade birthday cake and welcome family and friends to join for a coffee or lunch to celebrate this important day together. Residents are also encouraged to take active roles in garden by planting pots and light weeding and maintenance if they wish.
