Glencoe is a Victorian house converted to provide accommodation for eight residents. The house has a lounge/dining room, laundry and beautiful garden for the residents to share.

The house is full of character and charm and visitors always remark how warm and friendly the atmosphere is. It’s situated in a prime location within level walking distance to local amenities which include an array of cafes, restaurants, hairdressers, banks and shops.

All the rooms have en-suite facilities and you have your own door key. They are all centrally heated and have plenty of power points for your kettle and television etc. Rooms are usually freshly decorated but if you have a particular preference then we will always try to meet your requirements.  You can of course bring your own furniture and treasured possessions.

We have a stairlift to allow access to the first floor and a bathroom for assisted bathing.

There’s a dedicated housekeeper who has a real empathy for older people and a team of staff who are supportive to our residents and the running of the home. We also have a group of volunteers who are enthusiastic regarding the needs and wishes of our residents. Their visits consist of group activities, one on one interactions and planning social events.

The garden is easily accessible via a purpose built ramp with a summerhouse and greenhouse. Residents are able to relax, enjoy the views and watch the local birds on our feeder.

Glencoe is managed by the Abbeyfield Wessex Society

Life at the house

GardenWe hold a variety of activities but there are always a couple of coffee mornings every week as well as a games afternoon where the residents get together.

We have the local choir come in on occasion to give a concert and there is always the opportunity for a good sing song.

During the summer we hold a strawberry tea party in our garden where we all get together with family and friends.

We also hold fundraisers where we raise money for our dedicated choice of charity.

Keen gardeners are also encouraged to use the garden where they can potter in the greenhouse or feed the birds.

Afternoon teaThe housekeeper cooks delicious and nutritious meals which are eaten in the communal dining room. Lunch and tea are focal points to the day, providing company and companionship. Breakfast facilities are provided in the residents' rooms so that they can start their day at a time to suit themselves.
