Life at the house
Our caring staff and volunteers organise a range of activities on a daily basis for our residents, which include weekly exercise classes, piano recitals, trips to the theatre, themed parties and visits from singers and performers. Residents also enjoy listening to music, watching movies and documentaries, playing games, crafting or simply chatting over a cup of coffee with a slice of cake. We also often enjoy fetes and garden parties in the summer and festive activities at Christmas.
Every year we take part in Abbeyfield Week – a week when we open our doors to the local community to show off what's on offer at Abbeyfield. We celebrate this by hosting events such as fetes, tea parties and garden parties, to which residents, their families and the public are invited.
We like to make a big fuss for residents’ birthdays; we decorate the house with balloons and banners and always host a tea party so that the residents and their families can get together to celebrate with cake, cards and presents.
We celebrate all of the public holidays and commemorations throughout the year with a themed activity, party or tradition - our favourites are Easter and Christmas. At Easter we host an Easter bonnet competition when residents create extraordinary and extravagant Easter bonnets and, at Christmas, we enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, a glass of wine and some mince pies, whilst listening to carols.

Our experienced and well trained chefs provide residents with varied, nutritious and enjoyable home-cooked meals every meal time. Residents can choose between a continental or cooked breakfast in the morning and are severed a hot meal for lunch and a two course meal for dinner.
We cook all our meals using fresh ingredients, which are delivered directly to our front door – our residents really appreciate having home-cooked meals made using fresh ingredients. Our most popular dishes are our hearty home-made meals like casseroles and roast dinners. We regularly have a roast dinner on Sunday but residents can have whatever meal they like; our professional chefs are able to cater for the individual tastes and wishes of our residents and are more than happy to accommodate any special dietary requirements.
