We provide a peaceful, friendly atmosphere where residents can remain as independent as possible. It's a home from home with support when you need it from our professional and caring house staff and volunteers.

Abbeyfield Woodlands sheltered home was built in 1870 and renovated in 1990. It has eight large en-suite bed sitting rooms in total on two floors, each with their own kitchenette.

We have a lovely large sitting room with dining room, where our resident family meet to discuss their day over the communal meals or social occasions.

There is a conservatory and well-maintained garden and flower beds at the front and side of the house, with a patio at the rear.

There is stair lift accessibility to the second floor, a 24 hour community phone line is available, and we have a laundry room for residents' use. We also have a buggy shed for mobility scooters and limited car parking.

This house is managed by Abbeyfield Burnham and Highbridge

Life at the house

Board gamesOur volunteer Friends organise - or help the residents to arrange - a very active social life, including regular coffee mornings for the residents and committee members

Regular monthly activities include:

• Music mornings listening to CDs organised by residents
• Coffee and communion in the lounge
• Guest speakers
• Board game

Occasional events include

• Minibus outings on special occasions
• Birthday teas
• Presents at Easter and Christmas from the Social Fund
• U3A at the local community centre

We provide two healthy and delicious meals a day, which are cooked and prepared at the house. Our qualified cooks pride themselves on providing excellent food which is all freshly prepared, and where possible, using locally sourced produce.

Each house has an individual approach to catering for their residents, with menus being tailored to dietary needs and special events. But we always offer plenty of choices, including vegetarian options, and great portion sizes!

Meal time at an Abbeyfield is also important as it’s when the whole house gets together - a time to have a chat enjoying great food and great company.
