Our sheltered home offers safe and independent living for people with early onset dementia and who require the support of having highly skilled staff on site twenty four hours day to help them be as self-sufficient as possible. We provide residents with the privacy and independence of having their own affordable, high quality accommodation combined with the support of professional, dedicated staff and the companionship of others. We personalise our service to meet the needs of residents so that they can enjoy freedom, security and peace of mind with support when they need it. Residents are supported to cook their own meals and have the opportunity to take part in a range of organised social activities and outings throughout the year.

Life at the house

Our caring staff organise a variety of social activities and outings throughout the year for our residents, which range from spa days to day trips. We often enjoy fetes and garden parties in the summer and festive activities at Christmas.

Every year we take part in Abbeyfield Week – a week when we open our doors to the local community to show off what's on offer at Abbeyfield. We celebrate this by hosting events such as fetes, tea parties and garden parties, to which residents, their families and the public are invited. We also take part in Abbeyfield’s annual Coping at Christmas Campaign when older people, who would otherwise spend Christmas alone, are invited to join us for the festive period.

Our residents often enjoy days out and visits to other Abbeyfield homes but when they prefer to stay home we still like to find entertaining things for them to do, such as listening to music, watching movies, documentaries and live performances, playing games, crafting or simply chatting over a cup of coffee with a slice of cake.

We like to make a big fuss for residents’ birthdays; we decorate the house with balloons and banners and always host a tea party so that the residents and their families can get together to celebrate with cake, cards and presents.

We celebrate all of the public holidays and commemorations throughout the year with a themed activity, party or tradition - our favourites are Easter and Christmas. At Easter we host an Easter bonnet competition when residents create extraordinary and extravagant Easter bonnets and, at Christmas, we enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, a glass of wine and some mince pies, whilst listening to carols.

Our experienced and well trained support workers help residents to prepare and cook their own varied and nutritious meals every meal time. Our residents cook their meals using fresh ingredients, which they purchase locally every morning – our residents really appreciate having home-cooked meals made using fresh ingredients. The most popular dishes are hearty home-made meals like casseroles and roast dinners. We regularly have a roast dinner on Sunday, which our staff prepare but residents can have whatever meal they like – it is their choice!
