Meet our staff

Abbeyfield Monmouth is upheld and supported by a team of experienced staff, including devoted house staff, a dedicated Area Manager, a skilled maintenance engineer, a professional off-site administrative team and a board of specialist trustees.

Our home is run by a House Manager, Deputy Manager, Kitchen Assistant and a Domestic Assistant who ensure the home is clean, comfortable and safe and that the meals we provide are varied, nutritious and enjoyable. They also make every effort to make residents feel welcome and supported whilst ensuring they are as independent and self-sufficient as possible. Our staff will take the time to get to know each resident and ensure they have enough time to give them the attention they need. Our House Manager checks on the residents every day and can help assist them in an emergency so that they can feel safe, secure and comfortable. The House Manager will also build lasting relationships with residents’ families, doctors and any other external agencies to ensure their physical, emotional and spiritual needs are upheld.

Our Area Manager, maintenance engineer and off-site administrative team work closely with house staff and residents to help support the running of the home and maintain the high standards of accommodation and service that we offer. Our Area Manager and administrative team provide valuable professional support for many business functions such as customer services, sales, purchasing, payroll, human resources, marketing, fundraising and development. Each member of staff, on-site and off, is a specialist in their role and receives regular training, development and support to ensure residents get the best possible care and support available. Our board of trustees contribute a wealth of experience and expertise to the running of Abbeyfield Wales and are legally responsible for the governance of the society.

Integral to Abbeyfield Monmouth are the volunteers who dedicate their own time to support our residents and who bring an incredible range of skills and experience to the home. We benefit greatly from the invaluable hours that our volunteers invest in organising activities and events, helping to run and maintain the home and ensuring it is a stimulating and warm environment. Despite their varied backgrounds, our volunteers have one fundamental thing in common – a desire to help and support older people to live a good life.

Our caring staff and volunteers organise a variety of social activities and outings throughout the year for our residents, which range from daily coffee mornings to day trips. We often enjoy fetes and garden parties in the summer and festive activities at Christmas.

Every year we take part in Abbeyfield Week – a week when we open our doors to the local community to show off what's on offer at Abbeyfield. We celebrate this by hosting events such as fetes, tea parties and garden parties, to which residents, their families and the public are invited. We also take part in Abbeyfield’s annual Coping at Christmas Campaign when older people, who would otherwise spend Christmas alone, are invited to join us for the festive period.

Our residents often enjoy days out and visits to other Abbeyfield homes but when they prefer to stay home we still like to find entertaining things for them to do, such as listening to music, watching movies, documentaries and live performances, playing games or simply chatting over a cup of coffee with a slice of cake.

We like to make a big fuss for residents’ birthdays; we decorate the house with balloons and banners and always host a tea party so that the residents and their families can get together to celebrate with cake, cards and presents.

We celebrate all of the public holidays and commemorations throughout the year with a themed activity, party or tradition - our favourites are Easter and Christmas. At Easter we host an Easter bonnet competition when residents create extraordinary and extravagant Easter bonnets and, at Christmas, we enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, a glass of wine and some mince pies, whilst listening to carols.
