Relaxation and inclusion are also an important part of life at Locks Heath.  Space and time are made for residents to relax, reflect and have some me-time – we feel it’s important to balance this with exercise and socialising.

Respite support is offered and the team have supported several respite residents since the development opened. We are working closely with local hospitals to co-ordinate respite and even supported a local older person whose flat was flooded, who needed some temporary support and was referred to us by the Borough Council.

Abbeyfield Court is a member of the Associated Retirement Community Operators and aims to comply with the ARCO Consumer Code at the schemes that satisfy ARCO’s strict membership criteria. The Code sets high standards for retirement community operators and provides a benchmark for good practice.

Life at the house

ActivitiesCore fitness classes every Wednesday which are open to all in the community and include things like chair hockey!

An Outreach Occupational Therapy Clinic which is held in the therapy room.  This has been so well utilised that it is now part of the NHS appointment system which has brought the waiting list down for them by 50%.

Chiropody and massage services are on offer with the arrival of a new therapy couch.

A fortnightly Falls Clinic which is also community centred with people coming in to be assessed for their walking ability, suitability for frames etc.

A meals service at lunchtimes which is open to the wider community - eg the Locks Heath team support a local person with Parkinsons Disease who comes in to have a proper cooked meal daily – this means he is able to still live independently at home.

We provide two healthy and delicious meals a day, which are cooked and prepared at the house. Our qualified cooks pride themselves on providing excellent food which is all freshly prepared, and where possible, using locally sourced produce.

Each house has an individual approach to catering for their residents, with menus being tailored to dietary needs and special events. But we always offer plenty of choices, including vegetarian options, and great portion sizes!

Meal time at an Abbeyfield is also important as it’s when the whole house gets together - a time to have a chat enjoying great food and great company.
