Situated in the large coastal seaport of Grimsby, a place filled with charm, history, character and heritage, Winchester House offers a peaceful, friendly and warm atmosphere where residents are encouraged to remain as independent as possible. We provide support when you need it, delivered by our caring, professional and dedicated team of staff.
Built in 1878, the property became an Abbeyfield House in 1986 and comprises of five single en-suite rooms and three one-bedroom apartments, all with kitchenettes – a useful feature for when you have friends and family visiting.
Spend some quality time relaxing in our lovely garden, the perfect location to enjoy the sunshine, read a book, or catch up with friends and family. In our garden, you will also find a gorgeous pond, filled with aquatic plants and fish, and a summerhouse where you can sit back and put your feet up.
Conveniently located, Winchester House has excellent transport links with bus stops just a few minutes walk from the house, with bus routes into the town centre, Cleethorpes sea front, Lincoln and Hull. For those looking to travel further afield, you will find a Grimsby Town Rail Station just a short 8-minute walk away and links to Barton-on-Humber, Manchester, Newark and Cleethorpes. In Grimsby town centre, you’ll find the Freshney Place Shopping Centre filled with recognisable high street shops, independent retailers, and a great selection of cafes and restaurants. If that isn’t enough, you can uncover the history behind Grimsby by visiting the Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre, which tells you the stories of our trawlermen and their families.
Each month we have a reminiscent morning where the resident choose the subject and a speaker will bring many props, allowing the residents to use them and talk about how they used them in the past. Often we will get fish and chips from the local chippy for lunch, which is a great way to get all of the residents together, and we also have regular pampering sessions.
We like to organise trips out for our residents and they include trips to garden centres, going out for lunch and afternoon tea, and sometimes we go out for a drive around the villages to see where our residents used to live.
Our residents’ birthdays are special for us and we always celebrate significantly. Yearly events include our garden party in June and we have a big Christmas party every year.
Winchester House is managed by Abbeyfield Grimsby Cleethorpes and District Society.
Joan has worked here for 13 years, always going out of her way to help the residents. When possible, she uses local produce and pops down to the Grimsby docks to get fish for Fish & Chips on a Friday.
Bridget and Denise come as a pair and have worked here for 7 years. They're a fantastic team, always going out of the way for residents. They are very happy to get any shopping that you may need.
