Established in 1984 with donations from Bury Council and the late Mrs Templeton, Farraday House in Bury offers two types of accommodation; 13 supported living studios and 12 independent living apartments. Our service is unique as we offer laundry and cleaning services, as well as three meals a day for our supported living residents.
In our supported living studios, you’ll get a fitted wardrobe, kitchenette with microwave and under counter fridge and an en-suite bathroom with level access shower. Our new independent living apartments contain a fully tiled wet room, open plan lounge, kitchen and separate bedroom. Personalise your rooms with your own furniture and belongings to make you feel at home.
Farraday House is situated between Tottington and Bury town centre, with frequent bus links to each. We are lucky enough to have a bus stop located just a few metres away from the house, as well as several local shops just a short walk away. In the picturesque village of Tottington, you’ll find a selection of restaurants and cafes, supermarket, Post Office, GPs, and a variety of independent shops. Bury town centre has a Metrolink tram service to take you to Manchester with links to Rochdale and Oldham and also boasts a steam railway line, The East Lancs railway, hosting many themed events that are extremely popular.
For those looking for companionship, find our residents in the conservatory in the mornings reading the daily newspapers, or join other residents in the communal lounge, which has a large selection of books and jigsaws. Spend time in our beautifully landscaped gardens – the perfect place to meet and catch up with fellow residents, family or friends.
We understand the importance of providing a range of activities for our residents as it benefits health and well-being and makes us happy. The activities at Farraday House include coffee mornings, bingo, armchair aerobics and lunch club. At our coffee mornings, we have a range of guest visitors including opticians, the blind society and run memory box sessions. Every few months we have sales come and visit us where residents can buy gifts and clothes. Residents from both Bury Society Houses, Farraday House and Abbeyfield House in Radcliffe attend our events; great for socialising and meeting new friends.
We also love to organise trips out, which have recently included a trip to Oswaldtwistle Mill in Accrington and an Afternoon Tea at the local patisserie. Each year, we hold a Christmas party and garden party in the summer which are perfect events to invite family and friends to. In April we had an Opening Party to celebrate our new extension which was officially opened by the Mayor of Bury.
Farraday House is managed by the Abbeyfield Bury Society.
I joined the Abbeyfield Bury Society in January 2019 as General Manager and report to the Board of Trustees. Working closely with the staff at both of our houses, we have established a varied routine of social events and activities for the residents.
Housekeeper Tracey is an excellent Chef and has now been with Abbeyfield for 20 years.
Now having worked for Abbeyfield for over 30 years, Lynne is our Chef in Tracey’s absence and also carries out domestic duties.
Our team are very dedicated, ensuring they look after the residents’ needs while also supporting one another.

It's comfortable and homely, just like being in your own home.
Dorothy, Resident
Making a decision to move into more ‘senior’ accommodation is a difficult one for many but Farraday House genuinely feels like a home from home. The location itself is ideal, and the management team / staff genuinely care and take the time to help residents and their families.
