Supported Housing
A fantastic group of volunteers associated with Johnson House befriend our residents. They visit each resident on a regular basis, help out at social events and assist in general when on outings, holidays and so on.
The house is managed by a committee of volunteers and run by a number of dedicated and devoted staff including a residential housekeeper.
We also have excellent, attentive, catering staff, who provide hot meals twice a day and cater for everyone’s dietary needs. Details are recorded of anyone with particular likes or dislikes to ensure they enjoy all the food that is served.
The Jolly Johnsons is a social club where, with the help of our housekeeper, activities and events are organised by the residents, for the residents!
• Fit 4 Life exercises • Slide shows • Talks • Bridge club • Holy Communion • Beautician • Meals out
Ad hoc events include:
• Regular outings to local attractions • Tours of the stunning Lake District • Weekend stays at hotels • Walks • Fashion shows • Coffee mornings eg MacMillan Coffee Morning in September • Visits to the theatre, cinema and shows eg Blackpool Ice Show in September • Fundraising events for the Whitehaven Service and for other local charities. • An annual holiday: this year residents went on an Inn on the Lake holiday in June.
At an Abbeyfield supported house, we provide two healthy and delicious meals a day, which are cooked and prepared at the house. Our qualified cooks pride themselves on providing excellent food which is all freshly prepared, and where possible, using locally sourced produce.
Each house has an individual approach to catering for their residents, with menus being tailored to dietary needs and special events. But we always offer plenty of choices, including vegetarian options, and great portion sizes!
Meal time at an Abbeyfield is also important as it’s when the whole house gets together - a time to have a chat enjoying great food and great company.
