About the property

The Abbeyfield Silverdale Society offers residential care at Cove House for elderly people with a variety of conditions, including dementia, Parkinson’s Disease and those needing palliative care. Our dedicated care staff are highly qualified and experienced and are able to support residents in all aspects of daily living.

Cove House is a beautiful spacious residential home with well-maintained extensive gardens overlooking Morecambe Bay, situated in Silverdale in north Lancashire. The house, built in the mid 1800’s, boasts many original features, with each of the bedrooms being individual in size, shape and outlook which adds to the homely feel. There are 23 en-suite rooms and permanent residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture to personalise their rooms to make it more familiar.

We will support you in making your own decisions about the care you will be provided with. We recognise the importance of maintaining relationships with family and friends and we support residents in pursuing hobbies and interests by offering a variety of personalised activities.

There are regular residents’ meetings to enable feedback and comments on how we can improve or change things for the benefit of those living at Cove House. There are also regular care review meetings with families/representatives of residents.

We maintain a dedicated room for respite care for short stays or recuperation and we also offer day care services.

Meet our staff

We are blessed with a fantastic team of kind and compassionate staff and volunteers, all of whom are dedicated to making your life as enjoyable and worry-free as possible.

We currently employ 30 members of staff, a high proportion of whom are qualified to Level 3 NVQ in Health and Social Care, and some training to Level 4. The society employs domestic staff in addition to care staff to allow efficiency amongst the carers and a good promotion of infection control. Within the care team we have a mixture of senior carers and carers offering a wide range of qualifications, knowledge and experience.

We have a strong support of volunteers for the society, nine members on the Executive Committee and 11 volunteers who are the ‘Friends of Cove House’.  We always welcome new trustees and volunteers as their role and friendship to the house is very valuable to the society as a whole and to our residents.

- Team Leader

Hannah has been a valuable member of the care team for over 12 years. Her caring and bright attitude has a positive effect on our residents. She has various health & social care qualifications up to Level 3 and a wealth of experience in providing residential care.

- Head Cook

Lisa prepares and provides fresh, home cooked meals for our residents. Her training enables her to meet the nutritional needs of our residents, and she provides suitable alternatives for those with special dietary needs.

- Care & Training Coordinator

Lorraine is trained up to Level 5 in educational qualifications and has over 15 years’ experience in health & social care. Lorraine ensures all our staff receive the training they require to fulfill their job roles and provide quality care.

We aim to provide a personalised activity programme for all our residents. We encourage our residents to maintain any links with the community they already have, and to continue to pursue any existing hobbies and interests.

Some of the weekly activities we provide include:
• Yoga
• Bingo
• Quizzes
• Musical entertainment
• Games
• Dominoes
• Exercise sessions

We plan regular trips out to the local area including visits to the cinema and arrange in-house entertainers such as musicians, and theatre groups. Although we arrange and plan many daily activities we also encourage spontaneity and act on the impulse of our residents whether that be walks in the garden when the weather is nice or an improvised sing along to their favourite songs!

We have a regular hairdresser and chiropodist and staff often have ‘pamper sessions’ with residents, for instance pedicure and manicure.
