About Whitehaven Society

We are very proud to have recently been awarded Abbeyfield’s Gold Star rating, and equally proud of the beautiful area in which we are located: close to the Lake District and Solway coast, both areas of outstanding natural beauty.

Whitehaven has had an Abbeyfield sheltered house since the 1970s, with the Johnson House being opened in 1987. It is a modern two-story building set back from the road in its own well kept gardens.

We are a modern 5 star establishment furnished and decorated to a high standard where residents live and staff and volunteers work together, almost as a family concern.

The house is comprised of ten en-suite studio apartments and ten en-suite apartments with a separate bedroom.

The house is disabled-friendly with lifts to the upper floors and is maintained to a very high standard following refurbishment of the existing accommodation.

Our home

Johnson House

Set in the Georgian town of Whitehaven, Johnson House was built in 1985 and consists of nine bedsits and 10 one bedroom apartments. The house was extended in 1995 and all rooms were given their own level access wet rooms. During the renovations a beautiful sun lounge was added which is well used by our residents and great for sitting and enjoying the views.
