About the property

The Grove is a splendid mixture of old and new. Originally a private residence, it retains the charm and warmth of a family home yet has been extended and refurbished to meet the needs of our elderly residents.

Our 32 spacious bed sitting rooms are fully fitted, all with en-suite facilities, designed to offer comfort and security to provide a real home from home and are all fully wheelchair accessible.

All of our rooms feel different as you are welcome to bring your favourite personal belongings and soft furnishings to ensure it feels like home. Our communal lounge, dining room and conservatory are comfortable and homely and many of our residents love to spend time here, chatting amongst themselves, watching TV, catching up on news or some often prefer to sit quietly looking out on to our beautiful, well-kept gardens.

Whilst The Grove has a warm and homely atmosphere, the rooms and communal areas are spacious enough so that you have company when you want it or peace and quiet when you don't.

For us, the key thing is to recognise that everybody’s needs and interests differ, which is why we have tailored our home to respect and respond to your privacy and individual requirements to ensure that The Grove is very much your home.

Kath Brown

- House Manager

My employment with the Abbeyfield Society began in 1983 when I was appointed Registered Manager in 1984. Over the years I have been inspired and supported by a group of committed, dedicated volunteers – together we promote the Abbeyfield ethos and provide a safe, secure environment for our residents and staff.

Barry Kennedy

- Head Chef

I have been Head Chef here for about 10 years and I love to create great food for a very appreciative set of residents. The hours are rewarding, especially when you get feedback from our residents about how they have enjoyed their meal. The trumpet – I play in a local brass band – a great hobby which I have done for a long time now.

Activities

GardenWe offer a wide range of popular activities which you can choose to participate in if you wish.

By far our most popular activity is the weekly chairobics session which is organised by a fitness expert specialising in elderly exercise, but often our residents host their own sessions with our support such as our popular music appreciation group.

Fulfilment is at the heart of our offer. For some, that can be found by sitting in comfortable surroundings, enjoying the peace and quiet offered by our tranquil gardens; for others it’s heading out on an excursion or taking up a new hobby with friends.

We give residents the option of doing as much or as little as they please, and we encourage them and their families to participate in choosing what it is we offer. Whether it’s arts and crafts, a spot of gentle exercise or regular outings to local places of interest, participating in the decision-making process allows residents to maintain their independence and interest levels. Knowing that help is never far away can raise confidence levels and get residents back to hobbies and pastimes they had perhaps given up on.
