Life at the house

GardeningWe have a beautiful, secure, high-walled garden for our residents to enjoy with friends and families in the summer months, and a very comfortable garden summer house for refuge on those chilly days.

This has a television, DVD player, books and games for residents and their guests to enjoy. If you enjoy gardening you can help tend our vegetable and greenhouse area, and we even have a cellar workshop for those who enjoy woodworking or hobby crafts.

Our communal lounge has a well stocked library of books, audio books and DVDs for the use of residents and guests in their own rooms or in the lounges. We have a full Sky television package including sports and movies, and Wi-Fi internet for Skype and email communication with friends and family who live far away.

Residents enjoy social activities such as bingo, craft afternoons and dominoes in the garden conservatory lounge, which is next to a very pleasant outside decking area overlooking the extensive well groomed gardens.

As well as in-house entertainment, our enthusiastic and caring staff arrange days out on a regular basis at the suggestions of the residents, especially geared towards older people.

The residents Annual Forum is held in May and an Open Day Garden party with free refreshments is held in the summer months, to which all are welcome.

We provide two healthy and delicious meals a day, which are cooked and prepared at the house. Our qualified cooks pride themselves on providing excellent food which is all freshly prepared, and where possible, using locally sourced produce.

Each house has an individual approach to catering for their residents, with menus being tailored to dietary needs and special events. But we always offer plenty of choices, including vegetarian options, and great portion sizes!

Meal time at an Abbeyfield is also important as it’s when the whole house gets together - a time to have a chat enjoying great food and great company.
