Handbridge House provides en-suite accommodation for 12 older people. Residents are free to furnish their rooms with their favourite pieces, treasured possessions and photographs.

The house is on two levels and is situated in a prime location in beautiful Chester, close to the River Dee and within walking distance to many amenities which include GP surgery, pharmacy, cafes, hairdressers, shops and pubs. There is a bus stop close by where buses can take you over the very famous Old Dee Bridge into the heart of Chester within the city walls.

We have well maintained south facing gardens with seats available for our residents to sit and enjoy. A car park is provided at the front of the house.

Handbridge House has a wonderful staff team who are supportive to our residents and the running of the house. We also have a team of volunteers who are enthusiastic regarding the needs and wishes of our residents. They work closely throughout the year with the house manager to plan many social events.

This house is managed by Abbeyfield Chester.

Life at the house

MusicThe volunteers and manager work closely together to plan social events during the year, some of which include a canal trip on a horse drawn barge in North Wales, trips to the local garden centre for afternoon tea and a BBQ in the summer.

We also hold a coffee morning where we have visits from the children attending the local Primary school who bring cards and biscuits they make.

Twice a year we have visits from a local Choir who encourage the residents to sing along with them, and also a local theatre group who put on a fabulous production with the cast having many changes of costumes – a very enjoyable evening.

Every couple of months we hold a quiz with afternoon tea, with both houses in Chester hosting it alternately. Our residents like this social event as it allows them to meet other residents of Abbeyfield and have a catch up chat. We also host bingo nights and a film club once a month.

Dining areaAll the food we cook here at Handbridge House is freshly prepared and made on the day. Ingredients are sourced from our high class butchers and organic grocers local to us.

Our menus are prepared a week in advance and displayed in the dining room.

All the residents rooms have their own kitchenette where they make their own breakfast, so they can start the day when they wish.
