Located in the breathtakingly beautiful Ribble Valley, with rolling rich green countryside and stunning panoramic views, Abbeyfield House is a purpose-built care home in Clitheroe with 40 en-suite rooms including a self-contained dementia unit with 11 spacious rooms. We offer excellent facilities for residents looking for a care home, respite care or specialist dementia care, providing care, comfort and companionship.

Established in 1988, the Abbeyfield Lancashire Extra Care Society was formed by several Abbeyfield supported houses in order to satisfy the need to provide accommodation for people who were lonely. As time passed and residents’ personal and care needs grew, we decided to take the necessary steps to provide high quality residential care which could previously only be provided in nursing homes or hospitals.

Each of our 40 rooms come with ample space, en-suite shower, toilet and washbasin and are furnished with carpets, curtains, bed, wardrobe, drawers, table and chair. We encourage all of our residents to bring their own personal items to make their room feel like a home from home.

We have five beautiful lounges where you can catch up with friends and family. Get to know other residents over a puzzle in the conservatory or chat over mealtimes in the dining room, both of which have views of the splendid garden. Alternatively, you can while away the day in our garden, which has ample seating and is the perfect location to read a book, or relax enjoying the sunshine and peace and quiet.

For extra peace of mind, we offer 24 hour care provided by our caring, dedicated and friendly staff who are passionate about delivering excellent person centred care, tailored to your needs.

Conveniently located, we’re close to the town centre where you’ll find bustling streets full of independent shops, cafes, restaurants, hotels, churches, supermarkets, museum, banks and Clitheroe Castle which is surrounded by 16 acres of formal gardens.

This house is managed by Abbeyfield Lancashire Extra Care.

Life at the house

We are lucky enough to have a brilliant activities coordinator who is passionate about engaging with our residents and putting on a diverse range of activities and events. Activities include music and movement, word games, coffee mornings, singing with a smile, arts and crafts, film afternoons, armchair aerobics, growing fruit and vegetables, pet therapy, communion, taking residents out to the shops, and we have a church service organised by one of our residents.

Performances by professional groups are also popular, such as pantomimes and magicians. We once even had a live animal show with hedgehogs and snakes!

We also like to offer outings for our residents - we have been to a hotel for Christmas Lunch in Blackpool and for tea and cakes in a café in the Yorkshire Dales.
