Honiton Society

The Abbeyfield Honiton Society provides high standards of sheltered accommodation and companionship for 10 residents. Our support service enables independence and a happy lifestyle for people of retirement age.

The Abbeyfield Society began in 1956 when Richard Carr-Gomm, a young Coldstream Guard, became concerned by the number of lonely older people he saw in south-east London. Abbeyfield now has homes throughout the country and some overseas.

For the Honiton society fundraising was started in 1969 and Stanhope House was acquired in 1970 for older people to live independently in a supported environment.
