About the property

At Victoria House we have a varied selection of residents. We have a good support group of volunteers who provide various activities and outgoings, and we also have a very strong relatives group who recently formed a constitution. A mobile farm visits the house twice a year and we have a policy of allowing pets.

Victoria House is two large Victorian houses joined together which provides residential care for elderly frail and mild Dementia. Over the years we have had various extensions added to enhance the property, and now has 29 rooms of varying sizes, some having en suite facilities. Every room has a TV aerial and telephone access.

We have various gardens for our residents to enjoy and this gives the opportunity to get together and enjoy a cool drink and snacks or take a book into a quiet area to read.

The house has a lift and two stair lifts for easy access throughout the property. We provide easy access to listening books for those who have sight impairment and have a small library in the house. There is a hairdressing / treatment room, and a chiropodist who visits the house regularly, as does a lady who carries out reflexology and massage.

There is a facility to park and charge mobile scooters.

Meet our staff

At an Abbeyfield care home, our fully qualified staff create a care plan tailored to each individual's needs. The staff at Abbeyfield totally understand the needs of those who now find it difficult to cope at home without assistance.

Abbeyfield care homes each have their own individual style which our staff nurture by offering residents a personalised approach to their care, with security, independence and happiness at the heart of what they do.

This person-centred approach means all residents are respected as an individual and treated with dignity.

Arts and craftsWe have two activity coordinators who plan our art and craft mornings, coffee mornings and trips. They also run the shop and book the outside entertainers who visit the house frequently. We have a clothes shop which visits the house on a bi-monthly basis, so that the residents can purchase clothes in the privacy of the house rather than having to go shopping.

We have regular trips out to Hampton Court and Buckingham Palace, day trips up the river and trips to the theatre. We recently attended a quiz afternoon at another Abbeyfield House and because of its success have decided to make this a regular event.

We strongly encourage residents to retain their independence and continue any hobbies they enjoyed prior coming to Victoria House. For those residents who feel they would like some support when they go out, we can provide an escort to accompany them.  We have an annual summer fête and BBQ which is open to family and friends and is also very popular in the local community.

Every month we have a church service for those of our residents who cannot attend the Sunday service at the local church. A hairdresser comes every Wednesday and we also have an exercise class every Tuesday.
