Welcome to The Wyke, Gerrards Cross. Our home provides a peaceful, friendly atmosphere for older people to live as part of an active and social community whilst retaining their independence. It's a home from home with support when you need it from our professional and caring house staff and volunteers.

Built in 1908, our home was originally built as an upmarket town residence on the site of an old dairy farm…hence the old name itself, The Wyke. Since 1908 we’ve undergone two impressive renovations. The first was completed in 2005 with an extension to add more rooms and the second, more recently, in 2017 when we completed a major transformation adding an open plan conservatory to the lounge and dining room. With the garden then re-landscaped, we offer beautiful views year-round from the comfort of an armchair and underfloor heating. All three projects have proven to be tremendously successful; our residents love the modernised living and can often be found soaking up the sunshine in the garden.

“The new extension has changed my life.  It’s beautiful.  I love coming in every day and sitting looking out in the garden.” – VJ, Resident at The Wyke.

About your room

Our home has 13 bedrooms which can accommodate up to 17 residents. Rooms are provided with en-suite facilities and currently we also have three communal bathrooms with bath seats and plenty of room for assisted bathing and showering.

Bedrooms are provided unfurnished allowing residents to bring their favourite pieces from home and truly make the room their own. The carpets and curtains will either be cleaned or replaced when a new resident moves in, but should you want to decorate further this can be arranged. We want The Wyke to become your home and are happy to discuss any needs you have before moving in.

Prospective residents are invited to join us for a Wykes Welcome trial stay of a month before moving in so that we can be sure that we are a perfect fit for each other. In this instance we provide all necessary furniture so you don’t need to worry about anything during this time.

Communal areas

Completing our home is a delightful communal lounge and dining room which we encourage residents to use at their leisure. If family and friends are visiting, these spaces are yours to enjoy. We have a large plasma TV in the lounge where residents are often found watching a favourite programme, sporting event or DVD.

Lunch and tea are taken in the dining room and offer residents the chance to catch up about the day over a delicious home-cooked meal.

Our house manager Clare has been with the house for 27 years. Starting off as a cleaner, Clare has had many roles and in October 2016 was promoted to house manager. She has an excellent rapport with the residents and their families. She lives Abbeyfield’s ethos and truly is the heart of our home.

"The staff just can't do enough for you and the food is absolutely wonderful." - AB, Resident at The Wyke.

The Wyke has been fitted with a state of the art alarm system and residents are each given a personal fob to alert care providers 24 hours a day if anything should happen.

Parking is available for up to seven cars

Laundry facilities (with a view of the garden) are also available and a rota operates for residents to complete personal laundry.

The Wyke is managed by Abbeyfield Gerrards Cross
