Overview

Renowned for our homely, warm and friendly environment at Friars Mead, we provide person-centred and compassionate care for older people with a variety of needs. Whether you are looking for permanent residential care or short-term respite care, we specialise in looking after frail older people and offer facilities for up to 27 residents.

Respite Care/Short Term Stays

When residents come and stay with us, their carers can relax and have peace of mind knowing that their loved one is safe. Our respite stays include 24 hour care, home cooked meals and the use of all our facilities. We understand that everyone is different so personal preferences are always built into our packages.

Respite and short term stays also help build a connection between our residents, their families and our home; this can be beneficial should a more permanent stay become necessary in the future.

Most of our residents have local connections and we’re committed to building great links in the community with providers of other services for older people.  Kings Langley is a wonderful village and we want everyone to be proud of the facilities we can offer to our neighbourhood.

Friars Mead has built some excellent relationships with the community since it opened its doors, and from time to time residents receive visits from local groups who join them for activities.

Activities aren’t for everyone though and if you prefer a quieter life, we support you in that. Our activities are communicated regularly so for those who are keen to join in, they can find out more through the team or on the noticeboards.

We know how important mealtimes are to our residents, so we always try to make this a sociable and enjoyable experience, whilst recognising individual choice. We serve tasty, wholesome dishes and involve residents in selecting our menus at a local level. We offer daily choice of meals and cater for special dietary needs and preferences, helping keep our residents healthy and well nourished.

Our cooks understand the nutritional needs of older people and ensure that our meals are prepared using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are displayed on the main noticeboard and are changed on a weekly basis. We serve delicious homemade cakes and provide delicious birthday cakes for each resident. Residents’ breakfast is generally served in a resident’s own room so that they can eat when they like to in the morning but if a resident chooses they can have their breakfast in the dining room. For main meals, residents generally eat in the main dining room where a mixture of staff and other residents join in to help and make it a sociable time. Families of residents are always welcome for meals. Drinks are available all the time, and snacks are served throughout the day.
