About the property

David Gresham House provides a highly professional care service for older people, with an emphasis on reducing loneliness and isolation while enabling and encouraging individuals to retain their dignity. We recognise that David Gresham House is our Residents’ home and that they should be able to make it ‘home from home’.

David Gresham House is a care home with a family feel, offering companionship and 24 hour care for 29 elderly residents in single en suite bedsitting rooms. We also have five flats, four suitable for a couple and a studio flat for single occupancy, offering accommodation for those who wish to retain their independence whilst enjoying the shelter of the House. Click here to find out more about our independent living flats.

We set out to provide a happy family atmosphere in spacious and well-equipped surroundings. We aim to take into account each individual’s needs, so that they can feel relaxed, comfortable and free from unnecessary worries.

The purpose-built House, in its own attractive landscaped grounds, is within walking distance of churches, post office, local shops, bus stop and station. It was opened in 1986 and there is a regular programme of maintenance and upgrading, the most recent of which was completed in 2012.

Meet our staff

David Gresham House is run day-to-day by its Registered Manager with overall control in the hands of its Executive Committee (which is like the board of a company), assisted by a sub-committee called the House Committee. All members on both committees are unpaid volunteers from the local community.

Care Staff come from many different backgrounds; some have been employed in the care industry all their working lives. All our staff complete the mandatory training and we encourage them to train towards their Diploma in Health & Social Care, level 2, 3 or 4 as appropriate. All our staff have a collective commitment to improve the quality of the lives of Residents and are proud to maintain the high standards of care that David Gresham House provides.

We believe in enjoying later life and an Abbeyfield home will always offer residents the opportunities to get involved in activities and entertainment as much as they want.

We offer opportunities for residents to partake in a number of activities and events. We understand the importance of our residents emotional and physical well-being and keeping active and enjoying later life is crucial to this.

Our staff will always do their best to involve all residents and cater for any restrictions they have.
