When you choose Cunningham House you are choosing a lifestyle. This starts with you deciding how you wish to be cared for and supported, and the activities you wish to be involved in. Whether it be enjoying peace and quiet in one of our libraries, choosing to take part in one of our exercise classes with our Personal Trainer, or taking part in one of the many outings that are arranged away from the house. Leigh and Paula are our activities co-coordinators and they will support you through the varied activities, in and outside of the house and help you to continue to pursue your hobbies. We also have weekly hairdressing visits from Lily Pins at the Salon situated within the house.

Our focus is your wellbeing and we aim to achieve this through simple pleasures and our 7 domains of wellbeing; Identity, Growth, Autonomy, Security, Connected-ness, Meaning and Joy.

As part of the Abbeyfield group we are dedicated to the “Golden Moments” programme and recently worked in partnership with Jamie’s Kitchen who kindly assisted residents with cooking a 3 course gourmet meal with one of the restaurant chains top chefs.

As part of your personalised care package you will have a named senior member of staff who will work with you to devise your care package as well as having a named key worker. The entire team will work with you to ensure your time with us is both happy and enjoyable. In addition to this you are invited to attend our monthly resident meetings that keep you up to date of what goes on in the house and you will have the opportunity to express your own opinions. We also hold monthly relative meetings in order to keep your relatives and loved ones updated. The Care Team are dedicated to providing a service that caters to your needs and preferences.

We are part of PROSPER which is an Essex County Council Initiative which aims to reduce hospital admissions caused by Pressure Sores, Water Infections and Falls. At Cunningham House we have had several initiatives including hydration stations, ferrules checks, jellies offered as an alternative to fluid, falls checklist as well as a daily target for fluid intake for residents, regular exercise classes one with a personal trainer and another for music for health as well as chair exercises. Part of the project is also education and we run a number of these throughout the year including Dominoes Day for Falls Awareness Week and our recent 'Protect Your Birthday Suit Campaign' for Stop the Pressure, raising the awareness of pressure sores. We won a regional competitions with PROSPER for the wackiest idea with an 'Alice In Wonderland Mad Hatters Tea Party' we did for Hydration Week!

Life at the house

We recognise the importance of maintaining relationships with family and friends and we support residents in pursuing hobbies and interests by offering a variety of activities from in house entertainment to regular outings.

Jane and her team recognise the importance of food as part of a healthy and active life. We provide a balanced diet and cater for dietary requirements. All of our food is home cooked using traditional English cooking recipes and methods. Residents have monthly meeting where food and menus are always on the agenda giving you the opportunity to feedback on the food which is served. Menus are changed four times a year to suit the seasons, which gives you the opportunity to have the food that you like and enjoy.

For those that prefer a lighter lunch, omelettes, jacket potatoes and poached fish are offered. Jane and Paul’s teams recognize the importance of hydration for vitality and general well-being, therefore chilled water, melon, choc ices, ice lollies, jelly and yogurts are offered every day.

Breakfast

This is served in your room if you wish. You can choose Porridge, a range of cereals, fruit juice, fresh fruit, tea or coffee, grapefruit, prunes, fresh fruit and toast with, butter, jam or marmalade. A vegetarian option is available for those that require it or just want to try something different.
