Life at the house

We have a volunteer activities coordinator who visits us weekly. The residents enjoy doing various activities with her such as playing dominoes or cards, watching sports on TV, doing some gentle gardening or having a good old natter over a cup of tea and cake.

We also have another 3 volunteers who visit the house weekly on a Wednesday to hold a coffee morning. Every Friday night the staff and residents sit down to play games and share a drink.

Throughout the year we arrange various social events such as garden parties, afternoon teas and trips out.

What's on the menu

Our two cooks Sarah and Marlene offer a four weekly menu which is changed each season. At Abbeyfield we recognise the importance of receiving a balanced and healthy diet.

Our staff are always keen to ensure our residents are happy and have plenty of choices around their food. Both our cooks prepare home made meals daily with fresh ingredients sourced from local suppliers. We shop at local farms and have fresh fish delivered each week.

All our residents are encouraged to feedback their own ideas on the menu. We can cater for all dietary requirements.

Example Menu

Breakfast

This can be served in your room if you wish. Each day we have a choice of porridge or cereals, toast, yoghurt, fresh fruit, fruit juices, tea and coffee. Some of our residents enjoy sharing breakfast in the dining room, some prefer to prepare their own in our fully stocked pantries.

Lunch

All our meals are served with a choice of two vegetables and chips, boiled, roast or mashed potatoes. We have a roast dinner twice a week and battered or poached fish with chips every Friday. A vegetarian option is always available for those who require it or just fancy something different. We have hot puddings daily such as rice pudding, homemade sponges, and fruit crumbles served with cream, custard or ice cream.

Supper

At supper we offer a selection of light meals such as jacket potatoes, salads, sandwiches, homemade soup or quiche. Cheese & biscuits and homemade cake is also available every evening.
