Buckmaster House offers older people the space to retain their own independence whilst being part of an active and social community. Located in the pretty town of Broadstairs, in the Thanet area of Kent, our impressive Victorian house is set in extensive grounds with wonderful sea views over the English Channel.

Purpose built as a residential home and opened in 1895 by Jane Buckmaster, this elegant building has been completely restored and modernised, offering the highest standards to all residents. Many of the house’s original features are still visible today, including our stunning sweeping staircase and dome. Our home combines the grace of an era past, with all the conveniences of the present.

Made up of 21 rooms, all en-suite, our rooms are your own space to feel at home. Rooms come furnished but residents can bring some of their favourite pieces with them if they so wish. One of our rooms is also available to use for short stays or respite.

Completing our home is a communal lounge and dining room overlooking our large, picturesque garden, plus a hairdressing salon and peaceful nooks for reading or catching up with family. We encourage residents to use all areas of Buckmaster House, after all, it’s their home.

Our underlying ethos is to ensure that a decision to relocate to our residential accommodation is viewed as a move from home to home. Family, friends and relatives will always be welcome to visit, with the main difference being that you will have our friendly and carefully chosen staff here to look after you, taking the day-to-day worries of living on your own off of your shoulders.

In the local area

Buckmaster House is located close to the town centre of Broadstairs. We’re a short walk, an even shorter drive, from local restaurants, shops, local transport and the beach, of course! We often enjoy group activities both inside and outside the house and occasionally take trips to the nearby seaside

If you have visiting friends and family our staff can suggest lots of fun activities to do in Broadstairs, but some of our favourites are:

- Visit the beach for fish ‘n’ chips and an ice cream.
- Visit Dickens House museum – said to be the inspiration for the home of Betsey Trotwood in David Copperfield.
- Walk around the marina and art galleries.
- Enjoy the Victoria Gardens.
