Overview

Buckmaster House is a supported housing retirement home in the pretty town of Broadstairs, in the Thanet area of Kent. The impressive Victorian house is set in extensive grounds with wonderful sea views over the English Channel.

Purpose built as a residential home and opened in 1895 by Jane Buckmaster, this elegant building has been completely restored and modernised, offering the highest standards to all residents and complying with all Fire, Health and Safety regulations. It combines the grace of an era past, with all the conveniences of the present.

Our underlying ethos is to ensure that a decision to relocate to our residential accommodation is viewed as a move from home to home. Family, friends and relatives will always be welcome to visit, with the main difference being that you will have our friendly and carefully chosen staff here 24 hours a day to look after you, taking the day-to-day worries of living on your own off of your shoulders.

Our dedication and commitment to maintaining the ideals and standards that were laid down by our foundress remains as strong as when the doors were first opened well over a century ago.

Life at the house

At Buckmaster House we provide a wide range of activities and entertainment for our residents:

• Keep fit sessions
• Painting from a visiting artist
• Knitting
• Visiting musicians who come to sing and play music
• Bingo
• Poetry readings

At Christmas, we have lots going on with visiting choirs and The Thanet Light Orchestra which provides a wonderful evening’s entertainment. There’s a Christmas Party and the house is beautifully decorated throughout.

Residents can also benefit from regular visits by our in-house hairdresser and mobile library service. Residents can also have visits from a chiropodist and doctor when required.

With such a lot going on to get involved with should you choose to as well as a history going back well over a century we believe that Buckmaster House really is a home from home.

At an Abbeyfield supported house, we provide two healthy and delicious meals a day, which are cooked and prepared at the house. Our qualified cooks pride themselves on providing excellent food which is all freshly prepared, and where possible, using locally sourced produce.

Each house has an individual approach to catering for their residents, with menus being tailored to dietary needs and special events. But we always offer plenty of choices, including vegetarian options, and great portion sizes!

Meal time at an Abbeyfield is also important as it’s when the whole house gets together - a time to have a chat enjoying great food and great company.
