Overview

An Lac House was established in 1997, specifically to provide sheltered accommodation for older Vietnamese people where they can be supported with dignity within their own community.

We have ten ground floor apartments, which are all fully furnished and have television and telephone sockets. Residents are encouraged to bring their own personal items. All of the flatlets have an en suite bathroom, and there is also an assisted bathroom with wheelchair access.

We have a communal lounge and dining room, together with kitchen and laundrette facilities. For those of our residents who are Buddhist, we also have a worship area.

The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens where you can sit out and enjoy the sunshine. And all flatlets have their own delightful patio area, where many residents choose to grow their own flowers and vegetables.

We welcome potential residents to come for a trial stay, as well as visitors for whom we have a pleasant guest room available.

Life at the house

GardenAn Lac House is a real home from home set within a traditional Vietnamese culture. All our compassionate and caring staff are Vietnamese and have a real affinity with older people, including the chefs who produce two fantastic home-cooked Vietnamese meals every day.

But as well as your physical needs, your spiritual needs are also very important to us: An Lac House embraces not only Buddhism but also Roman Catholicism, celebrating both Christmas and traditional Buddhist ceremonies.

We organise a varied programme of activities and events, especially suitable for older people, so there is always something to keep you occupied or to look forward to. There is no pressure to join in and if you prefer to enjoy the peace and quiet of your own company in our beautiful home, that's fine too.

Activities include:

• Weekly tai-chi session for residents and friends - also popular with non-Vietnamese
• Meditation
• Buddhist worship
• Quarterly Health Promotion and Health Education seminar
• Quarterly Elderly Luncheon for residents and the local Vietnamese community members
• Christmas celebration for residents and their families and friends
• Annual cultural events, eg VuLan Ceremony and Moon Festival

Afternoon teaOur two Vietnamese chefs provide freshly cooked food which is colourful, nutritional and traditional Vietnamese fare – a fantastic eating experience.

They work on a rota to prepare two delicious meals every day, served in the communal dining room to make mealtimes a real social occasion. Breakfast making facilities are provided in the rooms so that you can start the day whenever you please.

All dietary needs are catered for, and food is locally sourced - including using vegetables from our garden, or even residents' own patio areas!
