Welcome to the Abbeyfield West Herts Society

Our organisation has traditionally provided supported sheltered housing in the local area. These are either purpose built or adapted buildings that are fully modernised with ensuite facilities to make them suitable for older people. The Abbeyfield way of life provides balance of privacy, support and security that can be ideal for older people who no longer feel happy living alone or want to be closer to their families. Abbeyfield is firmly rooted in the local community - the people living in an Abbeyfield house are very much part of their neighbourhood and enjoy the friendly contact this brings.

Committed to delivering compassion and companionship as well as practical help, we are proud of our reputation and profile in the Kings Langley, Abbots Langley, Hemel Hempstead and Watford areas. We are dedicated to offering adaptable and high quality services for older people who need a little support, as well as those who are frailer and have greater personal care needs. We provide a range of affordable housing and services, so if you need just a little assistance or want somewhere to remain independent but with a little bit of back-up, we are here to help.

Supported sheltered housing offers a great balance between independence and support; people are welcome to bring in their own personal carer at times of the day when they need a bit of extra help. We’re here to make life a little easier with features like lifts, community alarm services, wheelchair-friendly layouts and walk-in showers.

West Herts Society came into existence in 2017 and was a merger between Garrad House and Tannerswood

Our services - supported homes for older people in Hertfordshire

Our supported homes are ideal for older people who need a little extra support to maintain their daily lifestyle but want to remain independent. Residents have a studio room with an en-suite bathroom and have the option of socialising with other residents in the communal living room or dining area. All of the homes have landscaped gardens for the residents to enjoy.

Residents have access to tea and coffee making facilities and a housekeeper provides main meals for the residents, so they can concentrate on doing things they enjoy. The domestic staff clean and maintain the communal areas and residents have the option of having their rooms cleaned by them as well. Living in a supported home is a great way to retain your independence whilst being part of a community and making new friends.
