Our house is old, but beautiful. It was made into an Abbeyfield House in 1985.

It has changed a bit to make it easier for our residents, but kept its character.

The house is well situated for its purpose. It is well decorated and maintained, with a beautiful garden and patio for the residents and their families to use on a fine day.

Our house has a regular hairdresser, who has been with us for over 15 years, along with a chiropodist, who attends every six weeks.

Abbeyfield House Canterbury isn’t large, but yet you have the feeling of being in a big home! It is still a welcoming and homely place, with friendly staff who have worked together for many years.

Life at the house

Afternoon tea

The activities in the house can vary depending on the time of year, and on what our residents would like to do.

When any resident would like to go out, we arrange for transport and they go for the day to Age UK. Apart from mixing with other people, it is a beautiful drive to the destination.

We have a movie night, which usually takes place on a Tuesday evening, where the residents can choose or even get families to bring in films for them all to enjoy with a choc ice.

If all residents are up to it, we go out for afternoon tea at different establishments, i.e. Secret Gardens, wine vineyards and Walmer Castle, to mention a few.

For those who love animals, we have Pets As Therapy to come to the house.

Within the house, we are always happy to hear any ideas with the individual residents who are in the house at the time. After all, it is for them.

what's on the menu abbeyfield house ct13eqAt our home, the food is home-cooked, with a twist!

Every resident has a different taste, but they are all catered for and nobody is made to feel left out, whether you are diabetic, or if you just have specific taste.

On our menu, some of the food we serve is traditional, i.e. roast pork, roast beef, roast chicken, and roast lamb. All these are served with fresh vegetables, and roast potatoes of course, because who doesn’t love roast potatoes? The vegetables we do are roasted butternut squash, carrots, broccoli, mange tout and purple broccoli, to mention a few.
