Overview

The Abbeyfield Sanderstead Society is a charity that provides accommodation for fit and able older people on a non-profit basis. We offer a high standard of sheltered accommodation for active older people. The house is a "home from home" with a modern feel and a large well-tended garden. It is located in a quiet residential road yet close enough to local amenities such as transport, shops doctors, library and Churches.

Abbeyfield Sanderstead was established in 1969 and is a registered charity founded by members of the Sanderstead United Reformed Church and St Gertrude’s Roman Catholic Church. The property was extensively renovated in 2004. It comprises 8 en-suite rooms, a lift, lounge/ dining room and laundry.

Life at the house

We believe in enjoying later life and an Abbeyfield house will always offer residents the opportunities to get involved in activities and entertainment - which are a big part of life in our houses!

We offer an extensive activity programme within our Supported Houses, with our teams dedicated to coordinating events. We understand the importance of our residents’ emotional and physical well-being, and keeping active and enjoying later life is crucial to this.

Keeping active is important for older people and we offer numerous opportunities for residents to stay active, but it’s always the residents choice to get involved, with their independence and choice always being respected.

We provide two healthy and delicious meals a day, which are cooked and prepared at the house. Our qualified cooks pride themselves on providing excellent food which is all freshly prepared, and where possible, using locally sourced produce.

Each house has an individual approach to catering for their residents, with menus being tailored to dietary needs and special events. But we always offer plenty of choices, including vegetarian options, and great portion sizes!

Meal time at an Abbeyfield is also important as it’s when the whole house gets together - a time to have a chat enjoying great food and great company.
