An exciting opportunity has arisen to support The Abbeyfield Society with the ongoing effective management of Fire Safety. This post holder will work as the Fire Safety Adviser for the Society and would be part of the central Health and Safety Team.

The Health and Safety Team, based at our Head Office in St Albans, provides a range of specialist expert advice and assistance to a wide range of staff, including Directors, senior management, regional property managers and our numerous care home managers. We also act as a membership organisation for over hundred independent Abbeyfield member societies and provide general advice and assistance on Health and Safety matters.

We are looking for a confident, motivated and enthusiastic individual with significant experience of all areas of Fire Safety, ideally in a Care Environment (or similar), to join us and make an immediate impact on maintaining our high standards. This post holder can be based at any of the locations above but will be required to work nationally across all our sites to support the Society in meeting their statutory responsibilities and fire safety obligations.

You will have significant experience of undertaking fire risk assessments in complex settings such as care homes, hospitals or social housing. You should also hold a higher level fire safety qualification and preferably a membership of a relevant professional body. You will have experience of producing and delivering fire training sessions and seminars, ideally supported by a relevant training qualification.

You will be required to provide specialist technical advice to our three regional Property Managers on all aspects of fire safety repairs and replacement works, currently undertaken by our approved contractors. Knowledge of relevant Building Control Guidance and all aspects of current fire safety legislation is essential for this post. You must have significant experience of fire safety inspections including the relevant fire standards, legislative requirements and be confident to work independently.

Please note, this role will require hotels stays and significant travel for which you will be reimbursed. A full UK driving licence and vehicle registered for business use is required for this post; however, reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Please send your CV to Mary Boothman on M.Boothman@abbeyfield.com by no later than 10.00am on the 9th March 2020. Please indicate notice period required if relevant. Interviews will be held Monday 16th March 2020 in St Albans at our Head Office.
