At Sarnia House, we offer 20 studio flats, with two larger apartments where older people can live independently in the privacy of their own accommodation, but in a warm and welcoming communal house. Along with great companionship, we offer home cooked meals and the security and support of dedicated house staff. Located outside of Kettering city centre, our home is close to convenience stores and is a short bus ride away from Newlands Shopping Centre.
The role of our Weekend Cook is to provide high quality home cooked food for up to 24 residents and guests, including the preparation of buffets and BBQs as and when required. Meal times are really important to our residents and your role is crucial to making them as enjoyable as possible.
You are committed to maintaining the highest standards in the kitchen, during the food preparation process and meal delivery. You will be responsible for food orders and menu planning, food stock rotation and liaising with our residents regarding their dietary needs. You will ensure that all kitchen equipment and store areas are clean and hygienic, carrying out fridge/freezer temperature checks whilst following all hygienic practices to help protect our residents and keep them safe in accordance with the relevant Environmental Health standards and those expected by the Cook.
On occasions, you will be asked to cover for the Housekeeper/Cook during their absence from our house and cover Bank Holidays, which will include the general day to day running of the house, supporting the well-being and enjoyment of our residents and distribution of information to other staff members whilst keeping residents' files up to date.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the needs of older people, experience of working with the public if possible and an ability to cook for larger groups of people confidently. A Food Hygiene Certificate qualification would be desirable, but above all you must care about making a difference to the lives of older people as much as we do.
If you are passionate about baking and preparing delicious home cooked food and care about making a difference to the lives of older people as much as we do, we would love to hear from you. If you do share our values and are successful, you will be joining a great team here at Sarnia House. By sharing our values, we are sure you will fit in really well and make friends quickly. We will provide you with all the support you need and are up to speed in no time.
The Weekend Cook's role requires the ability to work independently and confidently, but most of all to be able to brighten our residents' day with your positive, cheerful attitude at weekends.
Our values are Caring, Openness, Honesty and Respect. We are a respectful and honest charity enhancing the quality of life with our caring and open approach in all aspects of our work.
