On the 20 October 2018, four members of Abbeyfield staff will be waking up in South Africa to take part in The African Centurion Walk – a 100 mile walk in 24 hours around Robben Island. Chris Moore, Valerie Bullock, Andrea Sparling and Sharon Wedge will be walking 25 miles each whilst raising money for Abbeyfield South Africa.

Team Abbeyfield are taking on the African Centurion Walk for a third consecutive year!

Situated off the coast of Cape Town, Robben Island is famed for it’s historical past. Known as the South African Alcatraz, this is where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated.

The team have already started training by walking to and from walk and trekking on weekends, but Chris Moore is taking his training one step (no pun intended) further by climbing Mount Snowdon.

Fundraising for Abbeyfield South Africa

Team Abbeyfield are fundraising for older people in South Africa

Abbeyfield has been based in South Africa since 1985 and currently provides accommodation to older people in 21 homes. Affordable and secure housing for older people in South Africa is a challenge the government is struggling to cope with and we want to help. Our aim is to reach out to more older people living in isolation and invite them to join the Abbeyfield family.

Support the Abbeyfield Team

This will be the third year a team of Abbeyfield UK staff are taking part in African Centurion and they would welcome any support you can give.
