About this property

Abbeyfield House supported accommodation for older people has eight single en suite rooms. The house is a large property which was built in the 1970s and has been since been converted into studio style accommodation.

As it is a small property, it retains a very homely and welcoming atmosphere which residents can really call their own home, and our friendly staff promote each resident's independence.

We prepare nutritious and tasty home cooked meals daily, served in our pleasant communal dining room so that meal times are a social occasion. Residents have breakfast making facilities in their own rooms so they can have their breakfast whenever they want, for a gentle start to the day.

We have a delightful communal lounge so there is always somewhere to enjoy the company of others. There is also an attractive well-maintained garden so that you can sit out and take in the fresh air and sunshine.

Residents are encouraged to be as independent as possible but can remain secure in the knowledge that the friendly, well trained and caring staff are on hand to see that daily life runs as smoothly as possible.

Local area

The pretty market town of Sherborne is located on the River Yeo, on the edge of the Blackmore Vale. Its name comes from the Anglo-Saxon scir burne which means 'clear stream'.

Sherborne is famous for its historic buildings, including its abbey, a manor house, its famous independent schools, and two castles – the 'old' castle ruins of a 12th century fortified palace, and a 'new' 16th century mansion, known as Sherborne Castle, built by Sir Walter Raleigh. Much of the old town, including the abbey and many medieval and Georgian buildings, is built from distinctive ochre coloured hamstone.

Abbeyfield House is located near the centre of the pretty town of Sherborne with all necessary amenities such as hotel restaurant and bar, churches, a local GP, pharmacy and post office.

It is a short walk to a bus stop which has services running regularly to the nearby town of Yeovil.
