Local Area

Barclay Smith House is located on the eastern shore of the Gareloch and the northern shore of the Firth of Clyde. We are close to a beautiful promenade which has stunning views over the Clyde and beyond.

Helensburgh is named after the wife of its founder, Sir James Colquhoun of Luss, who built the seaside resort in 1776 next to the spa baths which he has built on the site of the 15th century Ardencaple Castle.

Hill House, built in 1903 in the north of the town, is one of the best examples of the architecture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. It is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland.

Life at the House

Life at Barclay Smith House is very sociable. And we have a beautiful garden where you can sit out with other residents, or your friends and family, and enjoy the sunshine.

We have a team of ladies on the committe who organise activities.
