About this property

Abbeyfield House Care Home is a beautiful Victorian property with a modern extension, and provides residential care for older people in 27 rooms, 12 of which are en suite. Two of our larger rooms can serve as double rooms for a couple should the need arise.

Two pleasant dining rooms and a large comfortable lounge give space for living and socialising. We have attractive well-tended gardens which are used for outside activity as weather permits – or simply as somewhere to sit and enjoy the fresh air and watch the world go by.

Our kind and caring staff provide 24 hour care, seven days a week, including two delicious home-cooked meals every day.

The Abbey Day Centre is a purpose designed cottage bungalow which offers supported day places for ten people every day. We have a lovely sitting room and a fully equipped bathroom for assisted bathing and a fully adapted toilet.

The kitchen provides a re-enablement facility where clients can practice the skills they need at home, and we also provide hairdressing services.

We have a beautiful garden with summer house, and our gardeners are alway glad of a bit of extra help! Outings to local attractions are also organised. The cottage garden and summerhouse are available to residents also, and vice versa, and we sometimes have joint events.

Local area

The name Kirkcaldy means 'place of the hard fort' or 'place of Caled's fort'. It is derived from the Pictish caer meaning 'fort', caled which is Pictish for either 'hard' or a personal name, and –in, a suffix meaning 'place of.

It is a medium sized town which curves around a sandy cove between the Tiel (West) Burn to the north and the East Burn to the south, on a bay facing southeast onto the Firth of Forth. It includes the Royal Burgh of Dysart with its pretty harbour. The town has a theatre, beautiful parks, an art gallery and a museum.

Further afield

Historic castles, abbeys, former royal palaces and fishing villages are all within a short drive from the town. St Andrews with its world famous Links golf course, university and many others places of interest, and the beautiful city of Edinburgh, are both only a 45 minute drive away.

There are also many local picturesque lochs, hills and scenic areas in this beautiful part of the world.
