About this property

Abbeyfield House supported accommodation was built in 1985 and consists of eleven single occupancy flats.

The house was once the private residence of a local businessman and his family and has been extended to the rear.

Residents receive two tasty and nutritious home-cooked meals every day, served in our communal dining room so that meal times are a social occasion. They have breakfast making facilities in their own rooms so they can have their breakfast whenever they want, for a gentle start to the day.

We have a delightful communal lounge and dining room so there is always somewhere to enjoy the company of others. There is also an attractive well-maintained garden so that you can sit out and take in the fresh air and sunshine.

Local area

Stevenage may derive from Old English stiþen āc / stiðen āc / stithen ac  meaning '(place at) the strong oak'. The town developed to become the first designated New Town on 1 August 1946.

The historic High Street in Old Stevenage has some interesting features. Many famous historical figures have stayed here and much has happened over the centuries; details can be found in many books written about the town.

The New Town centre is a clean and pleasant traffic-free environment in which to browse the many shops and facilities it offers in safety. The shopping precinct and adjacent railway station are also close by.

A snooker hall for those so inclined is just a short walk away from the house, as are the Public Gardens.

Life at the house

A warm welcome is given to all visitors and our friendly staff are always happy to help residents' guests and visitors with any enquiries.

From time to time residents' family members stay for a meal, and they are always invited to any events, such as the annual garden party or live entertainment afternoons.

We organise a number of social activities and events, especially suitable for older people, so there's always something to keep you occupied or to look forward to.

  • coffee mornings
  • bingo
  • afternoon tea
  • arts and crafts
  • gentle exercise classes
