Leaving a legacy: two stories
A generous benefactor donated money to establish an Abbeyfield home to provide accommodation for older people living on the Isle of Wight. This house was opened in 1997. Later a legacy of more than £200,000 enabled the building of an extension for the house. The Delphie Wing, as it was named, consists of three large en suite bedrooms, a staff flat and a large conservatory.
At Abbeyfield's Shipley House in Bradford, managing the stairs was made easier for residents with the help of a legacy. The house was bequeathed £2,000, which meant that a chairlift could be installed to help residents move more freely.
