Children from St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Falmouth took Christmas gifts to the residents of Abbeyfield Falmouth last week.
Thanks to a generous £3,000 donation by an anonymous Cornish trust, now in its eighth year, Abbeyfield residents across Cornwall are each receiving a hamper this Christmas and each Abbeyfield house in Cornwall a Christmas cake, some wine and sherry. The residents in Falmouth were the first to receive their gifts when they were presented to them by a group of pupils from St. Mary’s including Jack and Elly-May Orders,Toby Doble, and Thomas and Emma Bucknall. Jack and Elly-May Orders are the children of Abbeyfield's Support Officer for Cornwall, Lynn Orders.
Abbeyfield Chief Executive Paul Allen says “It’s wonderfully generous of this Trust, who want to remain anonymous, to give Abbeyfield this money to provide Christmas gifts for our Cornish residents and I am delighted that the discount we get from the Cornish Store makes the money go even further. It was also splendid that the children came along as well.” Abbeyfield Falmouth resident Eileen McKenzie says “I would like to say thank you to everyone connected with us receiving these hampers and house gifts and thank you to the children for coming to see us to give them to us”.
Residents at Abbeyfield’s fourteen supported sheltered houses across Cornwall will each receive a jar each of Boddington’s preserve, marmalade and Halzephron chutney, a packet each of Trenance Chocolate Christmas Shapes, Tregothnan tea bags, St. Kew biscuits and a Cornish Tartan china mug. They will also share the cake and wine given to the house for everyone to enjoy.
