Join us from 5th – 13th of June 2010
On Saturday 5 June the balloon goes up on Abbeyfield Week. Up and down the country over 8000 residents, 7000 volunteers and numerous friends and supporters of The Abbeyfield Society will be kicking off a range of fun activities, all in the name of celebrating friendship, care and support for older people.
Abbeyfield has come along way since it’s founder, Richard Carr-Gomm bought his first Abbeyfield House in Bermondsey in 1956; it is now one of the largest providers of housing and care for older people in the voluntary sector. Right at the heart of the Abbeyfield ethos is the concept of companionship, security and support as well as providing value- for- money housing and care. Our highest priority is promoting independence for older people, offering them choices and improving their quality of life. What better way to celebrate these founding principles than spending time in communities with the people who make a difference in our world?
If this is a topic close to your heart, if you’d like to learn more about Abbeyfield and what we do, or if you simply want to go and take part in a fun event, why not look up your local Abbeyfield and see what they are doing next week. We’ve got events ranging from traditional Strawberry Cream Teas, through to Plays, Competitive Golfing Days, Canal trips, Mississippi Musical Evenings, Wartime BBQ’s and many, many more.
