When Alan Smith was a child he didn’t have a train set but now, at 89, a lifelong ambition has been fulfilled and he has one for the first time. A visit to the Model Rail Layout at Fort Victoria, near Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, inspired him to buy his very own Hornby train set with special carriages similar to the old Orient Express.
Alan says “I spent several happy months setting up the track, buildings etc and then, when I decided to come and live at the Abbeyfield House in Yarmouth , the icing on the cake was that I was offered the use of a shed in the garden which proved ideal for my new hobby. I am deeply grateful for all the kindness and help I have received from everyone at Abbeyfield”.
